STYLE INFORMATIONThe IAKSA Kickboxing Scotland is the light contact style of Lau Gar Kung-fu. The kickboxing and kung-fu were brought from China by Master Jeremy Yau in 1961. The kickboxing consists of modern, mainly closed fist techniques and fast light contact kicks, the main weapons in the style are the Knife, Kali Sticks, Staff and the Broadsword. Due to its up to date syllabus the style is extremely effective in defense against street attacks. The tournament side of the kickboxing is second to none, providing a platform from club level, to Scottish tournament, increasing to British national and advancing to international competition. The style has already produced five World Champions, three European Champions, and numerous World and European medalist within its ranks in Scotland. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSAM I FIT ENOUGH TO START?The exercises in the classes start off at a beginners level, and once you master the technique of each one they will slowly increase to improve your stamina and fitness. Everyone in the class has a different fitness level, and you will only be asked to do what you can manage. IS IT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN?The style is ideal for children, starting them at a young age (5 years old) it will teach them respect, control and confidence. It also gives them a good basis of regular exercise, that will hopefully be carried through their adult life. SHOULD WOMEN KICKBOX?Women of all ages are actively encouraged as it is important that in today's ever increasingly violent society they know how to defend themselves. However, regards training they are not treated any differently from the men and are put through the same challenging exercises and are also encouraged to enjoy competing in tournaments. HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN?Most of the clubs train twice a week, but the frequency of your training is up to you. If you can only train once a week, that is fine, if you wish to train more often there are many classes on each day throughout Scotland, you will be welcome in any of these clubs. Remember though, you get out of the training what you put into it. For a list of the clubs available click here WILL I BE GRADED?Yes, you should be ready to sit your first belt (White) after 3-4 months of training in the club, then you will move up through the grades in the following order, Yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, Purple, Brown and Black. A minimum of 5 years training is required to achieve Black belt. WILL I BE FORCED TO FIGHT?No, the fighting aspect of the clubs is normally done in a separate class, this class is optional, so if you just wish to train and enjoy the club you can. However, if you do wish to try the competition side of the sport, you will be taught in a safe environment by some of the best fighter not only in Scotland but also the World. The styles of fighting taught are Light contact and Semi contact, this means that all contact with your opponent is done with control. No excessive contact will be tolerated. Teaching you not only self defense but also self control.
